Strength & Balance Classes
- SAYGo – Steady As You Go exercise classes held throughout Taranaki
- Aqua Exercise class (North Taranaki & Stratford)
Aqua Exercise is held at The Methanex Aquatic Centre situated at 10 Murray St Bell Block regularly on a Tuesday morning commencing from 10 am.
This programme was initiated in 2012. Its purpose is falls prevention, strength and balance and gentle exercise in the water to promote fun and fitness to music.
Timed Up and Go Tests (TUG) are performed twice within the 12month reporting period. This measures the time in which the participant can walk 3 metres and return. Commencing from a sitting position in a chair, walking and then returning to the chair. It is an indicator as to whether their mobility has either increased, decreased or stayed the same as a result of regularly attending the aqua exercise class.
It is fun, easily accessible and enjoyed by everyone who attends.
Many of the exercises are from the SAYGo Falls Prevention model and are applied within the pool setting where the added resistance of the water creates another aspect of improving and strengthening muscles.
